Kaufman Rossin Names Director for Expanding Consumer Financial Services Compliance Practice
Kaufman Rossin, one of the top 100 CPA and advisory firms in the U.S., expanded its risk advisory services practice with the addition of Jennifer Newton, J.D., as director of consumer financial services compliance.
Newton, a former financial services regulator at the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), will oversee the firm’s growing consumer financial services compliance practice. She works with financial institutions to develop and maintain effective consumer compliance programs to mitigate risks and meet new and established regulatory expectations.
The consumer financial services regulation arena has changed in the past 10 years with the establishment of the CFPB and enactment of the Credit CARD Act and Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act. Kaufman Rossin assists clients in navigating these regulations and more with a range of services, including performing consumer compliance risk assessments, reviews and audits; developing and implementing consumer compliance management systems; managing responses to the CFPB, state and other regulatory examination requests; and assisting with launching and managing comprehensive, closed loop, consumer complaint management reporting systems.
Before joining Kaufman Rossin, Newton served as a financial services regulator at the CFPB in Washington, DC. She also worked in in-house compliance roles and as an attorney for a law firm’s financial services practice group. Newton currently serves as an adjunct professor of law at Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law.
Newton was recognized as one of the National Black Lawyers’ “Top 40 Under 40” in Banking and Finance in 2016 and 2017. She currently serves as vice-chair of the Pro Bono Subcommittee of the American Bar Association’s Consumer Financial Services Committee, and as a member of the Florida Bar Consumer Protection Law Standing Committee. She was also named as a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a Class IV Academy Fellow of Florida Bar’s William Reece Smith Jr. Leadership Academy, and she was recently selected to join the Leadership Florida Connect Florida Class VIII. She holds a Juris Doctorate from Loyola University’s School of Law, and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Science from Florida State University.
