Overview

As a leader in Kaufman Rossin’s Forensic, Advisory and Valuation Services team, Avelino “Vino” Rodrigues brings more than 25 years of practice experience to clients on fraud, litigation, regulatory and other matters.

Avelino brought his significant expertise to projects in the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela and Caribbean nations. He has worked on assignments for Fortune 500 level clients in various industries. Prior to being with Kaufman Rossin, he was with an international consulting firm for 13 years and led their Latin American Investigations practice for 5 years. He was also with one of the Big 4 accounting firms for 12 years and formed part of their forensic and quality review practices.

Avelino has extensive investigative experience throughout the U.S. and the Latin American region, in which he has participated in financial dispute engagements with multinationals to investigate allegations of misappropriated funds; performed investigations for publicly traded multinationals of alleged FCPA violations in their South American operations; conducted anti-money laundering compliance and investigative advisory services on behalf of premier global financial institutions in connection with their regulatory compliance, client risk rating process and acquisitions throughout the region; conducted assessments on the implementations of transaction monitoring software and processes on behalf of multinational financial institutions; and conducted numerous Internal Audit evaluations for global institutions to determine effectiveness and completeness of the Internal Audit function for regulatory compliance. Avelino has also conducted audit defense work on some of the largest fraud cases in Latin America on behalf of 2 of the Big 4 accounting firms.

Additionally, Avelino has worked on numerous litigation engagements, in which he assisted attorneys in developing discovery, refining strategy, document requests and preparing demonstrative exhibits for trial, as well as provided expert testimony on allegations claimed against clients in various industries for company and personal losses.

He is a founding board member of the South Florida Chapter of the Association of Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialists and a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in Florida.

A native of Curacao, he is fluent in English, Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch.


Dispute Advisory

  • Conducted audit assessments on behalf of 2 of the BIG 4 accounting firms as part of malpractice disputes related to some of the largest audits and fraud cases in the region.
  • Provided expert testimony as part of litigation on allegations claimed against clients in various industries.
  • Assisted attorneys in calculating damages, developing discovery, refining strategy, document requests and preparing demonstrative exhibits for trial.
  • Participated in financial dispute engagements with multinationals to investigate allegations of misappropriated funds.


Financial Advisory Experience

  • Performed numerous investigations for publicly traded multinationals of alleged FCPA violations throughout their South American operations as well as monitor ship assessments and testing globally.
  • Conducted a performance audit and investigation into alleged mismanagement of a large electrical plant in the Caribbean as well as other government owned entities.
  • Performed various investigations of alleged embezzlements of company funds and resources and resented findings for the purpose of potential prosecution.
  • Conducted numerous anti-money laundering compliance and investigative advisory services in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean on behalf of global financial institutions in connection with their regulatory compliance, client risk rating process and acquisitions throughout the region.
  • Participated in an engagement by a premier global financial institution to review over 2,000 of its Latin America Private Banking customers Know-Your-Customer documentation for compliance with Bank Secrecy Act and relevant anti-money laundering rules and regulations.
