Hurricane Season Survival: Is Your Business Ready for the Worst?

Read

South Florida is halfway through hurricane season without incident, but if a hurricane hits tomorrow, will your business be prepared? Is your company prepared for long-term business interruption? Are your records and building protected against flooding or other damage?

The following are three steps business owners should take to prepare for hurricanes and other natural disasters:

  • Electronic backups can help safeguard your company’s records. Offsite data backups can mean the survival of important company records should the paper copies be destroyed in a storm or other natural disaster.
  • Consider business interruption insurance, which covers profits lost during the natural disaster. It’s not sold as a stand-alone policy but can be added onto property insurance or a business owner’s policy.
  • Protect your building and/or its contents with flood insurance.  You can calculate your business’ flood risk and the subsequent insurance premiums on a flood hazard map.
