IRS to be Closed for Summer Furlough Days

Read

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will be closed July 5th, July 22nd and August 30th due to budget cuts. All IRS offices, including toll-free hotlines, the Taxpayer Advocate Service and the nearly 400 taxpayer assistance centers nationwide, will be closed on those days.

As a result of the current budget situation, including the sequester, IRS employees will be furloughed without pay. The closures will not affect any tax filing or payment deadlines, although no tax returns will be processed and no compliance-related activities will take place on those days. The IRS says taxpayers should continue to pay any taxes due and file returns as usual.

Some of the IRS’ online tools and phone-based automated services will be operational on furlough days, but others will be unavailable. If the last day for responding to an IRS request falls on a closure day, the taxpayer will have until the next business day to comply.
