Kaufman Rossin in the Community: Communities in Schools
Read
Ivan Garces talks about his involvement in the community.
Which organization are you involved in and what is its objective?
I am involved with Communities in Schools of Miami (CIS), an affiliate of the nation’s largest dropout-prevention organization that serves to empower at-risk students in our district’s most challenged schools. CIS partners with several schools and helps bring in programs and resources that are proven to keep students in school and motivated to graduate. The organization’s services are offered at no charge to the students and include mentoring, tutoring, life skills development, case management, counseling, job readiness, and much more.
What is your role with the organization?
I am a member of the Board and Audit Committee, and I have also served as the Board Treasurer.
Why did you decide to get involved in this organization?
I became involved with CIS because of my deep desire to help students in our community stay in school and prepare for life.
How has Kaufman Rossin contributed to your success with this organization?
The firm supports CIS through its commitment to community service, allowing me the time to serve and contribute to the organization’s annual gala. I am grateful for Kaufman Rossin’s generosity in selecting CIS for this month’s jeans day charity drive.
What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?
There are a lot of needs in our community and many organizations working hard to meet those needs. Find a cause that you are passionate about and get involved.
