Kaufman Rossin in the Community: Dress for Success
Read
Kaufman Rossin’s Jessica Delacruz talks about her involvement with a nonprofit organization.
Which organization are you involved in and what is its objective? I’m involved in Dress for Success, a nonprofit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools to help women thrive in their professional and personal lives.
What is your role with the organization?
I am a member of the board of directors and the acting treasurer.
Why did you decide to get involved in this organization? My mother came to the United States from Cuba with nothing and she had to work extremely hard to make a living for her family. As a result, I grew up valuing hard work and independence. I know first-hand that something as simple as a suit can be incredibly empowering for a woman struggling to find her self-confidence. Dress for Success teaches women to become economically independent. They give women more than just suits; they give hope and instill a belief that all women can overcome obstacles.
How has Kaufman Rossin contributed to your success with this organization? In addition to the Jean’s Day fundraiser and clothing drive, Kaufman Rossin has an annual cocktail event to support nonprofit organizations and allow board members to network and promote their causes.
What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community? Just do it. Plenty of nonprofit organizations are in need of professional staff like accountants to assist. I got involved after our firm’s marketing department shared that Dress for Success was looking for an accountant – the rest is history.
