Kaufman Rossin in the Community: E-SToPP
Read
Lisa Kahn Little of Kaufman Rossin talks about her involvement in the community.
Which organization are you involved in and what is its objective?
I am involved with E-SToPP, Eradicating the School-to-Prison Pipeline. This non-profit organization helps youth who are involved in or at risk of being involved in suspension, expulsion, serious school failure, dropping out, and/or incarceration. Its mission is to provide them with hope for a new life through holistic care, empowering education, sustainability, and social entrepreneurship.
What is your role with the organization?
My husband and I both volunteer at E-SToPP. We help the organization keep its finances in order by assisting with bookkeeping, budget counseling and other finance and accounting needs.
Why did you decide to get involved in this organization?
A close friend of ours joined E-SToPP a couple years ago and encouraged us to get involved. We wanted to dedicate some of our time to giving back to our community, and we thought this would be a great place to start. We’ve been grateful for this experience ever since.
How has Kaufman Rossin contributed to your success with this organization?
I’m fortunate to work at a firm with a strong non-profit practice. Kaufman Rossin has a team of experts who specialize in assisting exempt organizations with their tax compliance and other accounting needs, and my colleagues have been a tremendous resource in answering financial questions to help us improve the operations at E-SToPP. I’m also thankful that the firm encourages employees to get involved in the community and helps us raise money through monthly Jeans Day fundraisers.
What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?
Find a way to use your skills and expertise to benefit your community. Get involved with an organization you believe in! It will be the most rewarding experience.
