Kaufman Rossin in the Community: Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization

Terri Richards of Kaufman Rossin talks about her involvement in the community.

Which organization are you involved in and what is its objective?

The Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization is a family support and resource organization dedicated to serving families who have children with Down syndrome. Serving Palm Beach County families for more than 35 years, the organization has grown from monthly meetings to monthly activities and events that reach out to member families and the disability community.

What is your role with the organization?

I have supported the Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization for many years, helping to raise awareness and encouraging others to get involved. The organization has several events, one of them being the annual Buddy Walk, a one-mile advocacy walk in honor of all individuals who have Down syndrome. I was inspired by my sister and brother-in-law, who are both members of the Buddy Walk committee, to participate in the walk and raise funds for the organization.

Why did you decide to get involved in this organization?

My involvement with this organization hits close to home as my niece was born with Down syndrome. She has been my motivation in advocating for children with disabilities so they may have a whole and valued life in the community.

How has Kaufman Rossin contributed to your success with this organization?

I’m very grateful for Kaufman Rossin and their support to help passionate employees like myself give back to organizations that mean so much. Through the monthly community-focused Jeans Day initiative, I’ve been able to raise funds and awareness about Down syndrome in a positive light.

What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?

Go for it! Find a cause that you are passionate about or an organization that speaks to you personally and give back to those who need help. It’s a gratifying feeling.
