Kaufman Rossin in the Community: Impact Broward

Lynn Brewer of Kaufman Rossin talks about her involvement in the community. 

Which organization are you involved in and what is its objective?

I am involved with Impact Broward, which has been serving Broward County for over 50 years.  The objective of the organization is to impact the community through the following volunteer-driven programs: School Readiness, Struggling Veterans, In-Need Adults and Broward Nonprofits.

The organization’s unique model focuses on the benefits of volunteerism while providing services needed    throughout Broward County. This can be seen through the Foster Grandparents program, which places more than 180 volunteers in Title 1 schools throughout  Broward County, providing over 124,000 classroom hours supporting local teachers and benefitting more than 3,000 students.  Impact Broward’s other programs a have similar community impact.

What is your role with the organization?

I am on the board of directors and serve as vice chair of the organization. I am also involved with the finance and governance committees.

Why did you decide to get involved in this organization?

I have volunteered with children or the elder population since college. Whether  it was with disadvantaged children in Troy, New York,  or group homes in Lancaster, England, I always found time to give back.

I was looking for a way to meld my interest with at-risk youth and the elder population when I came across Impact Broward, which offers a variety of programs that greatly impact these segments of the local community.

Impact Broward empowers the local retired population to service the needs of our community as volunteers. The volunteers are involved with at-risk youth through our Foster Grandparents program and our homebound elder population through our Senior Companion and Relief for Caregivers programs.

How has Kaufman Rossin contributed to your success with this organization?

One of the hallmarks of Kaufman Rossin’s firm culture is to be involved and give back to our community.  The firm has given me the flexibility to take on a leadership role in the organization, which not only enhances my personal growth but professional growth as well. In addition, the firm is always supportive of our fundraising events, which the organization greatly  appreciates.

What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?

Get involved with something that pulls at your heart strings. Be conscious of the time required, and be willing to commit to the cause.
