Kaufman Rossin in the Community: iPads for Soldiers
Read
Lisa Kahn Grossman talks about her community involvement.
Which organization are you involved in and what is its objective?
iPads for Soldiers is an organization that collects donations to purchase iPads for soldiers serving in Afghanistan and soldiers in recovery in our nation’s hospitals. The iPads provide the soldiers with a wonderful way to stay in touch with loved ones, download books and learn new skills.
What is your role with the organization?
The organization is primarily a fundraising organization, and my involvement has been to raise funds at Kaufman Rossin through several jeans day fundraisers. One Friday each month, our employees can pay a small donation to wear jeans, and the proceeds benefit a charity chosen by one of employees. The firm’s first jeans day raised money for iPads for Soldiers and became the inspiration for making this a monthly event.
Why did you decide to get involved in this organization?
I got involved through Winnie Pritchett, whose son was serving in served in Afghanistan when she founded the organization in 2010, and Amy Zambrano, founder of a Key Biscayne-based community service group called Island Angels. Both Winnie and Amy are residents of Key Biscayne, where I live, and we have become good friends. They told me about iPads for Soldiers, and I thought it was great and wanted to get involved.
How has Kaufman, Rossin contributed to your success with this organization?
The employees and management at Kaufman Rossin have been very supportive. Everyone enjoys jeans day, and our employees are generous when there is a charity they can help support.
What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?
Community involvement is important for many reasons. I have had many advantages and been fortunate in my life so I enjoy giving back to others. It gives me a lot of pleasure to know that I have made a difference in a small way.
