Kaufman Rossin in the Community: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Read

Natalie Sands and Sandi Jarrett of Kaufman Rossin talk about their involvement in the community.

Which organization are you involved in and what is its objective?

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding research, finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients. In collaboration with Team In Training (TNT), the mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, so what better time to have a “Jeans Day”!

What is your role with the organization?

We have been involved with LLS for years, so this year we formed a Kaufman Rossin “Team in Training (TNT)” to participate in the Space Coast Marathon & Half Marathon. Our team has raised more than $14,000 to date through our fundraising page and we plan to raise more until November.

Why did you decide to get involved in this organization?

Sandi’s dad, Marty, and Natalie’s husband, Mike, are success stories – they are both survivors of blood cancer!  This year especially, our Kaufman Rossin team is fundraising and running in honor of our colleague, Elizabeth Benitez, who was diagnosed with blood cancer in February 2016 and is currently undergoing intense treatment.  She has a long road ahead of her and we wanted to show our support in her fight.

How has Kaufman Rossin contributed to your success with this organization?

Jeans day fundraisers at Kaufman Rossin have helped us go above and beyond our fundraising goals. Many of our colleagues have already made donations to our team, and the firm has been very supportive – donating our registration fee and allowing us to hold office information meetings.  We will also have Kaufman Rossin teams throughout the month of November at the “Light the Night” Walks, benefiting LLS and honoring Elizabeth.

What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?

Just do it!  We are all busy, but there is no better feeling than helping and supporting important missions. Our ultimate goal is not to cross the finish line but to see our fundraising dollars find a cure for blood cancers.
