Kaufman Rossin in the Community: Miami Rescue Mission

Leticia Rivero of Kaufman Rossin talks about her involvement in the community.

Which organization are you involved in and what is its objective?

I am involved with the Miami Rescue Mission an organization that has provided meals, shelter and life-changing programs to in-need adults and children in our community since 1922. The Miami Rescue Mission works with adults to help them obtain GEDs, assists children with their homework, offers substance abuse rehabilitation programs, mentors women, and provides employment opportunities for its clients.  The Miami Rescue Mission inspires and teaches members of our community to lead healthy and productive lives long after they have left its centers.

 What is your role with the organization?

I recently began volunteering with the Miami Rescue Mission’s Cover Girl group.  This group specifically supports the Center for Women and Children, a center dedicated to helping women with children break cycles of abuse, neglect and homelessness. This past May, members of my family and I provided volunteer hours and secured a financial sponsorship for the organization’s “Women on Fire” event.

 Why did you decide to get involved in this organization?

I became involved with the Miami Rescue Mission through my daughter, Anais, who was looking for volunteer opportunities in the community. After researching, she selected the organization’s Cover Girl group because it helps women and children escaping situations of domestic violence and homelessness.

Since my daughter is still not of age, I had to stay at the Miami Rescue Mission while she volunteered – and it was not long before I was personally inspired by observing the organization’s commitment to helping others. It has been a great opportunity for our family to give back and always appreciate the blessings that we have.

How has Kaufman Rossin contributed to your success with this organization?

As a part of the firm for 25 years,  I have witnessed Kaufman Rossin’s consistent commitment to helping our community through many organizations. This commitment is a deep-rooted value of our firm’s culture that encourages firm-wide involvement.

When I asked the firm to sponsor the Miami Rescue Mission’s “Women on Fire” fundraising event, the firm came through again for the community. With our help, these women shared a wonderful afternoon that reminded them that they are beautiful, and the funds raised continue to be used to help them become independent and successful.

What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?

Remember to count your blessings and find your own way to give back to your community. Community involvement can be whatever you can give.  Even the smallest contributions make a great difference.
