Kaufman Rossin in the Community: Paws4You

Read

Todd Kesterson of Kaufman Rossin talks about his involvement in the community.

Which organization are you involved in and what is its objective?

Paws 4You Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit, volunteer, donor-subsidized animal rescue organization based in South Miami.  Its top priority is to save dogs from euthanasia at Miami-Dade Animal Services, where more than 27,000 unwanted pets end up each year.

Some rescued animals are sick or injured, others are homeless, surrendered or simply lost. Paws4You gives these animals a safe environment at their shelter, along with professional medical care, hope and lots of love. The animals are sterilized, vaccinated and ID micro-chipped to prevent future loss. Some require major surgery from a specialist to repair broken limbs while others may need additional rehabilitation time and specific medical care – ranging from respiratory illnesses and skin infections to cherry eyes and heartworm treatments.

What is your role with the organization?

I am a Board member and provide assistance and support in the areas of accounting, finance, treasury, and strategic decision making. I oversee the budgeting, accounting, and cash controls for our fund raising events, with help from some of my wonderful colleagues. I also work with the other Board members and Executive Director to continually improve the organization’s roles, responsibilities, and best practices.

Why did you decide to get involved in this organization?

My wife and I are both animal lovers and were involved in animal rescues in Dallas before we moved to Miami. Animal rescue is something we are passionate about and can do together. Once we got settled here, I started looking for an organization to work with, and we were fortunate enough to find this one. Paws4You is also close to our home and has an amazing $1.5 million facility, which was paid for by a single donor family.

How has Kaufman Rossin contributed to your success with this organization?

Paws4You operates from community funding, so every dollar counts. I’m hopeful this month’s Kaufman Rossin Jeans Day will raise a large amount of funds for this great organization. KR encourages its employees to get involved in the community, and I’m thankful for the firm’s support.

What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?

Find something you believe in and jump in! Once you start, it is a rewarding experience and extremely valuable to the lucky organization you have chosen.
