Kaufman Rossin in the Community: PAWS4you

Greg Katsikas of Kaufman Rossin talks about his involvement with PAWS4you. 

Which organization are you involved in and what is its objective?

PAWS4you Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit, volunteer, donor-subsidized animal rescue organization based in South Miami.  The organization helps rescued animals including sick, injured, homeless and surrendered animals, as well as those lost from their owners. We provide these animals a safe environment at our shelter, professional medical care, hope and lots of love. Our animals are sterilized, vaccinated and ID micro-chipped to prevent future loss.

While some animals require major surgery from a specialist to repair broken limbs, others may need additional rehabilitation time and specific medical care. The veterinarians on site treat everything from respiratory illnesses and skin infections, to cherry eyes and heartworm disease. Once PAWS4you commits to helping an animal, we seek the best quality treatment available – taking no shortcuts.

Educational programs are an important aspect of our mission. In the past, Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops have visited our facilities to learn about the importance of caring for animals and the impact of philanthropy. We hope to continue expanding our educational programs in the community to encourage good practices for maintaining the health and happiness of companion pets.

What is your role with the organization? 

I am a Board member and Treasurer and provide assistance and support in the areas of accounting, finance, treasury, and strategic decision making. I oversee the budgeting, accounting, and cash controls for our fund-raising events. I also work with fellow board members and the executive director to advance the organization’s goals, responsibilities, and best practices.

Why did you decide to get involved in this organization? 

My family adopted our dog from an organization similar to PAWS4you 12 years ago.  Since then, animal rescue is something we are passionate about.  I began volunteering at PAWS4you events when I first heard about the organization 5 years ago.  Both of my children collected toys and supplies for sheltered animals, which were donated to various organizations as part of community service projects. The more I learned about PAWS4you, the more I wanted to be involved.

How has Kaufman Rossin contributed to your success with this organization? 

PAWS4you operates thanks to community funding, so every dollar counts! Kaufman Rossin encourages its employees to get involved in the community, and I’m thankful for the Firm’s support. Through our Jeans Day initiative, we’ve helped hundreds of different causes, organizations, community projects, etc.

What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?

Find something you are passionate about and get involved.  Helping the community is so important and also very rewarding!
