Sow a Seed’s mission is to create sustainable change in the lives of orphans in Haiti. They provide a strong and independent voice in the fight against poverty and widespread abuse in Haiti’s orphanages, providing underprivileged kids with food, water, and medical assistance, and actively promoting and teaching the importance of arts, education and agriculture.

What is your role with the organization?

I am a dedicated Co-member and Treasurer.

Why did you decide to get involved in this organization?

After a week of collecting Haiti relief donations, my friends and I immediately took action to transport and distribute the supplies to Haiti’s earthquake survivors on January 21, 2010.

We successfully airlifted several pallets of much-needed medical and hygienic supplies to Port-au-Prince where volunteers waited on ground to unload the plane and transport the supplies to various hospitals and orphanages. During that short period of time, we met several international organizations that were in Haiti and eager to help but didn’t know where to start. We’ve assisted these organizations and continued working with them since to give better care to the orphanages in Haiti.

How has Kaufman, Rossin contributed to your success with this organization?

Kaufman Rossin supports Sow a Seed and other non-profit organizations through monthly Jeans Day fundraisers.

What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?

Get involved in your community and give something back! Getting involved offers a sense of satisfaction and achievement, the opportunity to make new friends, and the chance to learn something new and build your confidence. Don’t be surprised if you actually have fun doing it!  In the words of Oscar Wilde, “the smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.”
