Kaufman Rossin’s Cary Valdes-Perez and Robert “Bobby” Glick talk about their involvement with Zoetic Stage.
Tell us about Zoetic Stage. What is its mission?
CVP: Zoetic Stage was founded as a non-profit in 2010 to create fresh, bold interpretations of contemporary plays and musicals. It’s dedicated to enhancing South Florida’s national artistic profile by producing regional premieres and developing new works to become part of the American stage repertoire.
RG: All of Zoetic Stage’s productions take place at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.
What is your role in Zoetic Stage?
CVP: Bobby and I both sit on the board. We bring our business acumen and utilize our experience in not-for-profit organizations. Bobby currently sits on the board and is the acting treasurer of the Florida Grand Opera, the Miami Beach Jewish Community Center and the Rhythm Foundation, and I have audited several not-for-profit organizations and I’m familiar with budgets, grants, and other accounting matters specific to this environment.
RG: We share our business perspective with a group of creatives, attorneys, bankers and wealth managers who also sit on the board.
What prompted you to get involved with Zoetic Stage?
CVP: For me, it is one of the most fun projects to be a part of! There is so much talent. The writing, acting, directing, production … there are so many facets to pull off for four shows a season. It is a completely different world from anything I’ve ever been exposed to, and I revel in it.
RG: Simply said, I love and support theater, and Zoetic Stage is Miami’s finest. It is a great way to get involved in our thriving community, meet like-minded professionals and give back.
What inspired you to coordinate a Jeans Day for Zoetic Stage at Kaufman Rossin?
CVP: Kaufman Rossin supports so many worthwhile causes, and a lot of times the firm’s efforts pull on the heartstrings, but I think it’s also really important to support the arts and celebrate something as wonderful as theater in our great city. We are so fortunate to have freedom of expression, which is often overlooked.
What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?
CVP: Get involved in something you love and are passionate about. It should feel less like work or networking, and more about having fun and taking the opportunity to help others.
