QuickBooks 2014 is here!

QuickBooks 2014 comes with it a host of new features that may tempt desktop users to upgrade.

One of the biggest changes is Intuit’s efforts to expand its email functions by adding more templates, tracking features, and the ability to have multiple attachments. The new templates will allow you to include customer and job info in your email conversations and use a central location to track discussions with your client-base.

Another of the touted new features is the “Income Tracker.” This new dashboard allows you to easily view and filter unpaid and/or unbilled transactions, replacing the “Collection Center” from previous versions of QuickBooks. In the Income Tracker, you can batch print selected invoices, sales receipts, or credit memos, plus you can easily send timely follow-up emails to customers to boost your collections process.

And if your collections go awry, Intuit has also added a feature to track bounced checks, eliminating the need for a multi-step manual process of voiding the check and recording any related fees. Now users will see a “record bounced check” icon directly on the receive payment screen, which will allow them to unapply a previously paid invoice and record any related fees that you would like to assess your customers in the process.

In addition to these major new features, QuickBooks continues to tweak functionality based on user suggestions. You can now copy and paste entire lines in a transaction, making it easier to draft invoices and bills. Those using jobs will find the ability to assign specific reps, which is a welcome change from the previous options that only allowed reps on a per-customer basis. When printing reports, you’ll see quicker features for sizing the height and width, and the new “left icon bar” we were all introduced to in the 2013 release brings layout and color customization features in 2014.
