QuickBooks Tip: Save Time with Keyboard Shortcuts

Read

Using keyboard shortcuts can to help you work more efficiently in QuickBooks. You can keep your hands on the keyboard and minimize the time lost when using a mouse to activate a command or move to a field on a transaction.

There are simple keyboard commands for navigating through lists, editing transactions, entering dates and opening data files and dialog boxes in QuickBooks. For example:

  • Ctrl+N – Creates a new transaction or list item when you have a list or transaction window open
  • Ctrl+H – Opens the Transaction History dialog box on a displayed transaction
  • Alt+N – Saves the selected transaction and advances to the next same-type transaction
  • Ctrl+W – Opens the Write Checks dialog box
  • W – First day of the week
  • M – First day of the month

cheat sheet for keyboard shortcuts no longer available!
I am a volunteer (not a cpa or accountant) attempting to help a start up mission church with bookkeeping using QuickBooks. No problem performing the various tasks (but probably not the quickest). Problem is in understanding the language of QB and accounting. Seems to me an item, a job and a class can be referring to about the same thing the use of class is most confusing! As a church we do not file tax returns, we have no payroll so don’t need that, no inventory so don’t need that. We do have a few grants and contributions which keeps the doors open. Mostly everything is on a cash basis. We do have a bank account and can download transactions but nothing is connected. seems like a bad idea. Any suggestions for using quickbooks to keep the books. So far have found no churches using QB. Thank you Bill

      Bill,

We will fix the link to retrieve the cheat sheet above. Sorry about that.

What version of QuickBooks are you using? Intuit has a non profit edition for the desktop version. We have several non profit organizations that use QuickBooks.
