KR in the Community: Lisa Grossman helps organize celebration of diversity
Team from 2009 Class Produces a One-Time Showing of ‘Melt’ for Miami Students
MIAMI — March 9 2009— Team Fourge Ahead of the 2009 Class of Leadership Miami will present a one-time showing of ‘Melt’ a play that depicts Miami’s diverse community. The program begins at 3:30 p.m. on March 15 at the historic Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami. Kaufman Rossin manager Lisa Grossman represented the Firm as part of this team.
The unprecedented event will examine and celebrate diversity in our community through the arts. In addition to the play Team Fourge Ahead will present a video montage of the real faces of Miami’s diverse community as well as prizes for an arts contest in which students were given an opportunity to create their interpretation of diversity.
The team has invited a diverse group of students from throughout Miami-Dade County along with politicians and community activists to attend the invitation-only event.
Michael McKeever’s award-winning play “Melt†tells the poignant story of three families from three different backgrounds and their experiences in Miami as these three cultures became part of the fabric of the Miami community. An African American brother and sister a Jewish father and son and an Hispanic mother and her son find their lives intertwining over social and moral issues as seen from the perspective of each culture.
Leadership Miami is a long-standing program of The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. It is designed to foster and encourage community involvement and leadership. Each Leadership Miami class is divided into teams and each team is responsible for creating and completing a community project.
Team Four (hence the name Fourge Ahead) believes that one of our community’s greatest assets our multi-ethnic and diverse community also presents our greatest obstacle the lack of communication and understanding between the community’s diverse groups. In addition Team Fourge Ahead recognizes that there is increasing difficulty in exposing our students to cultural and artistic events and presentations. McKeever’s play “”Melt”” enables Fourge Ahead to address both of these concerns in one project.
