What Florida Businesswomen Expect from Companies They Lead in 2015
Four companies in the Tampa Bay area are among the top 50 women-led for-profit organizations in Florida. The companies were identified as part of a survey by The Commonwealth Institute of South Florida and Kaufman Rossin, a South Florida-based accounting firm.
Included in the top 50 list are: Miranda Monahan, president, M-PowerTech and M-PowerTech Asset Recovery Services in Bradenton; Ann Duncan, president and founder, Vertical Integration Inc., a real estate firm in Tampa; Brenda Wise, president, GLT Total Office in Lakeland; and Yvonne Fry, executive producer at Lines of Communication, a technology firm in Plant City.
Women who lead Florida businesses have an optimistic view of their current
status and future prospects, according to the wide-ranging survey. Among
the findings:
- 55% reported their company grew in the past year
- 85% project moderate or substantial growth in their firms’ revenue
this year - 60% expect to increases staff numbers
- 55% of those who founded their own companies said the main source of financing was their own savings
- 23% used a bank loan, and 7% had a Small Business Administration loan
Of the nearly 350 survey respondents, more than 70% have been in business more than 10 years with annual revenue ranging from less than $500,000 to more than $10 million. Most survey participants have one to five employees and range across numerous industries including professional services, health care, construction and education.
