Deadline Approaching for U.S. Taxpayers Abroad to Request 2-Month Extension
Read
Are you a U.S. citizen or resident living outside of the United States and Puerto Rico? If so, you can request an additional discretionary, two-month extension to file your 2014 federal income tax return. This extension, in addition to an existing six-month extension, postpones the due date for 2014 tax returns until December 15th, 2015.
Extension requests must be written and sent to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) no later than October 15th to be considered.
In order to qualify, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Your tax residence must be located outside of the United States, or
- You must be a member of the U.S. Armed Forces stationed outside of the United States and Puerto Rico.
To request this extension, mail a letter to the IRS address below explaining why you need two additional months to file your 2014 return. The letter must include your Social Security Number, a verifiable address and the tax year.
