QuickBooks Tip: Customize Form Styles and More with New Update

Read

Intuit recently implemented a large update for QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Accountant. The changes in the June update affect more than 10 different areas of the program. Today we will take a look at three areas: inventory, bank feeds and form customization.

Before we dive into the changes, it’s important to note two things: 1) these improvements are generally rolled out in waves, so users may see them at varying times, and 2) a handful of these improvements are only available in the United States.

Inventory and bank feeds

The QuickBooks Online inventory module has always been a hot topic with users. It is still considered a relatively new addition that Intuit is continuously improving.

Users can now edit fields in an inventory starting value transaction directly from the register, rather than having to first open the transaction and edit from there. “Class” and “Locations” are also now implemented within inventory quantity adjustment transactions and inventory starting value adjustment transactions. Listening to users’ concerns, Intuit has finally added a “Physical Inventory Worksheet.” This report helps to establish continuity with physical inventory counts.

Moving to the upgrades on bank feeds, users can now have “Bank Feed Rules” added automatically to the books without having to review the transaction. After this new type of rule has been created, it is automatically applied to any matching transactions that have been sitting in the “For Review” bucket. The rule is also run during other events, such as when you log in, after a file upload has completed, and when a manual update is run. However, you should still keep up with your monthly bank reconciliations to check that all activity has been captured accurately come month-end.

Choose you own style for forms

Finally, we turn to the improvements in form customization. Some users had noted difficulty in recreating highly customized invoices previously built in QuickBooks Desktop, and in response to these concerns QuickBooks Online has been regularly improving their customization options.  Now QuickBooks Online users have the ability to import an invoice from a Word .docx file.  In addition, QBO provides may pre-designed templates, allowing users an easy starting point from which they can add their company logo, and company-specific language, such as payment terms.  Here are some examples of the pre-designed styles:
