Heidy Duarte of Kaufman Rossin appointed co-chair of FIBA Women’s Leadership Committee

Kaufman Rossin, the largest independent CPA and advisory firm in Florida and one of the top 100 firms in the U.S., announced that Risk Advisory Services Principal Heidy Duarte, CAMS, AMLCA, CFS, CFE, CPA has been elected to serve on the Financial & International Business Association’s (FIBA) Women’s Leadership Committee as 2023 co-chair.

The Financial & International Business Association is “a non-profit trade association and international center for financial excellence. As a respected industry voice, FIBA has built a network of partnerships with regulators and policymakers through a comprehensive, hands-on approach to advocacy.” The mission of FIBA’s Women’s Leadership Committee is to promote, coach, develop and empower future female leaders in the financial industry.

“FIBA’s Committees play a critical role in delivering our vision and strategy, working together with our Executive Committee, Management, and Board of Directors. Each Committee creates value for our members and helps our Association support and protect our Financial Industry,” said Julio Rojas, FIBA chair.

Duarte is a highly skilled professional with international experience in public accounting, financial services, and other private sectors with a proven track record in assessing risks combined with extensive knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). She has presented at industry events on matters related to BSA/AML/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), having served as a panelist at major anti-money laundering conferences, webinars, and round tables. She also has significant experience in fraud risk assessments and investigations, leading to the development and strengthening of fraud prevention and detection procedures.

Duarte earned her bachelor’s and master’s of accounting from Florida International University and completed a Risk Management for Corporate Leaders program from Harvard Business School Executive Education. She also serves as an executive member of the United Way Women of Miami-Dade.
