Heidy M. Duarte joins Kaufman Rossin as risk advisory services principal  

Kaufman Rossin, one of the top 100 CPA and advisory firms in the U.S., announced that Heidy M. Duarte, has joined the firm as a principal in the Risk Advisory Services practice, where she will help to lead the firm’s Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/anti-money laundering (AML) and sanctions compliance consulting services in South Florida, Latin America and the Caribbean. 

Duarte brings over 16 years in the financial services industry, with extensive experience in forensic accounting, risk management, and regulatory compliance matters helping clients identify and mitigate risks.   In her new role, Duarte will build both domestic and international teams and will be based Miami, spending significant time in Latin America and the Caribbean.   

Duarte has a proven track record in assessing risks combined with extensive knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). She has experience working with banks, broker-dealers, money service businesses, insurance, and other non-bank financial institutions. She also possesses expertise in fraud risk assessments and investigations and conducting internal audits for financial institutions.

Prior to joining Kaufman Rossin, Duarte was the director of the National Forensics Practice of a large global international accounting and consulting firm, where she led the development of the AML practice in Puerto Rico, LATAM and the Caribbean and assisted foreign financial institutions with their regulatory compliance programs. Additionally, she has worked with a big four accounting firm. Previously, Duarte served as the BSA/AML/OFAC officer and head of the Corporate Financial Fraud department at a national financial institution.  

Duarte is an executive board member of Women United, a sub-committee of the United Way. She also serves as an instructor in multiple programs. In 2021, she received the South Florida Hispanic Miami Chamber of Commerce Award, Women of Leadership Award in Business/Accounting.  

Duarte earned her Master of Accounting from Florida International University. She also completed risk management for the Corporate Leaders program from Harvard Business School Executive Education.
