Tell us more about SEED School of Miami and its mission.

The Seed School of Miami is “South Florida’s only public, college-preparatory boarding school.” It was founded in 2014 and is the third of three SEED Schools; the others are located in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Maryland. Its objective is to provide a safe, live-in charter school for “at risk” youth. The school’s educational program focuses on motivating and empowering students to be successful in college and beyond.

What is your role with the organization?

I was elected to serve on the board of directors, which oversees management of the organization, including functions like fundraising, accounting, compliance, events, recruiting, and development of school and dormitory facilities, among others.

Why did you decide to get involved in this organization?

Foster children and other at-risk youth are often confronted with living environments lacking support and guidance in their educational journey through high school and into college.  The SEED School of Miami provides tools, resources, facilities and support from educators and life mentors.

How has Kaufman Rossin contributed to your success with this organization?

Social responsibility is one of Kaufman Rossin’s core values, and the firm does an excellent job of supporting the causes our employees care about. Through our monthly Jeans Day initiative, everyone has an opportunity to fundraise, and we’ve helped hundreds of organizations, including The SEED School of Miami.

What is your advice for others who are thinking about getting involved in the community?

My advice is to look for things you are passionate about.  I am personally focused on ways to help those who find themselves in difficult situations, especially those who, through no fault of their own, are struggling to succeed. There are lots of good causes, but The SEED School of Miami appealed to me because they provide under-advantaged children an opportunity to become successful on their own.  I believe helping the next generation is one of the most important missions we have as individuals.
