Carlos Somoza Discusses Doing Business in Florida at the Spain-USA Investment and Business Cooperation Forum

Kaufman Rossin’s Carlos Somoza, J.D., LL.M., an international tax principal, was a guest speaker at the Spain–USA Investment and Business Cooperation Forum held at the Biltmore Hotel on November 13th.

Somoza led a discussion on the tax implications of doing business in Florida in which he explained U.S. taxation of non-business income and business income, choice of entity alternatives to operating within Florida, and U.S. estate and gift tax residence rules for Spanish individuals.

The forum, which was held on the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Florida by Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon, promoted business partnerships between Spanish and American companies, with an emphasis on U.S. companies located in Florida.

Somoza provides international inbound and outbound planning for U.S. and foreign multinational corporations, including foreign tax credit planning and structuring utilizing the Entity Classification tax provisions.
